Think you know yoga? Think again.

YogaWhat is Buti yoga?

When most people think of yoga, they picture someone in a pose that can only be described as painful, but looking peaceful and relaxed while they do it.

They are probably holding their hands out in some way and chanting, “ohmmmmm.”

That would be Vinyasa yoga.  And it can do great things for you.

So, when people hear about a loud, high intensity, movement-focused version of yoga, you can imagine a few minds may be blown.

But yoga, while it is about 5000 years old, is constantly changing and evolving.

Why?  Because we are constantly changing and evolving.

Our society is the most sedentary society in history.  Most adults spend their days working at a computer.

Everyone has smartphones and tablets.  We carry our work and entertainment with us wherever we go.

So, since we no longer use our bodies as much as we used to (or as efficiently), yoga has stepped in to help fill the gap.

Buti yoga is a high intensity, heavy cardio exercise.

It incorporates traditional vinyasa yoga with “primal movement,” and tribal dance from Hawaii, West Africa, and Native American tribes.

There is an emphasis on using spiral structure technique.

What, you may ask, is spiral structure technique (SST)?  Imagine a rod, going from the top of your head, through your body, to the floor.  Now move your abdomen, waist and hips around the rod in a circle, without moving the rest of your body.

That’s SST.

But that’s not all there is to Buti yoga.

Most importantly, for some, Buti yoga is fun.  It’s not as structured as traditional yoga.  The movement comes spontaneously in response to the music, which is loud.

Don’t be surprised if you can’t hear the instructor’s cues.  It’s ok, no one else can either.  Just follow along.

Buti yoga feels more like play than a workout.

Just be sure to dress lightly.  You will get hot.

But come join us and sweat with intention.

Sessions are Tuesdays at 6:30pm.  Due to the popularity of Buti yoga, we are looking at adding more sessions, so always check back with us to get the latest schedule.

If it seems intriguing, but maybe a little intimidating, that’s ok.  Our resident expert, Chastity Garcia, is holding a workshop.  Join her November 11th, from 12-1:30pm.  She’ll go over the breakdown of the spiral structure technique and the methodology behind Buti yoga.  All in a simple, no pressure, no stress setting.

So, come join us and sweat with intention.  And shake your – well – you know.

We wish you good health,
