Fighting Diabetes- Simple Changes

September 20th is the first day of our Simple Changes. Big Rewards. program!

Simple Changes. Big Rewards. is a program geared towards people living with, or trying to avoid Type II Diabetes. We/ve offered other programs in the past, but decided on this program as a way to support both people who already have been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes- as well as those who are facing “prediabetes.”

Type II diabetes is a disease affecting almost 10% of the U.S. population- that’s 29.1 million Americans (in 2012). Another 86 million Americans are facing Prediabetes. Diabetes has become the 7th leading cause of death in the country. This is a serious health epidemic!

Simple Changes. Big Rewards. is a program that works with people to help make small changes to positively affect their overall health (hence the name). Simple Changes is a 12 week program, run in conjunction with Kadlec Medical Center.

Participants meet twice a week for coaching, advice, and support. Half of the program (Thursday meetings) takes place at Columbia Basin Racquet Club, and the other half happens at the Kadlec Healthplex (Tuesday meetings). We want to take the scary/intimidating part out of trying to get started on fitness and lifestyle changes. We’ll talk about food choices (including meal templates and tips for eating out), how to work fitness into your lifestyle, how to manage stress and anxiety, how to develop and stick with a workout plan, and tips and tricks for overall health.

We’re excited to offer a full access 12 week CBRC membership to all the participants of the Simple Changes program. All paid participants receive full access to the CBRC facilities for the entire 12 weeks of the program- so even though it’s a Wednesday at noon- you can still work out. Participants can also take advantage of our fitness classes!

In addition to the gym access, classes, and professional advice- participants will also have the support and encouragement of the entire group. Beginning a journey to better health can be very intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. With Simple Changes you’ll have a group of people working through the process alongside you, right there “in the trenches” with you. Research has shown that completing a prediabetes coaching program  can reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58% (CDC). We’re proud to be able to offer this program to the Tri-Cities and surrounding region.
